MovieClaw: the next-gen AI media server

One server replaces your entire media stack. Web and native apps for phone, TV, and Mac. Free for personal use.

The Subscriptions page in the MovieClaw web app: newly added titles in the carousel, with Just Added below (the app's interface is in Chinese)

01All in one

One install. That's all you need.

It used to take six or seven services, six or seven configs, and a lot of effort to keep them all agreeing about the same library. Now it's just MovieClaw.

Native apps, with playback that rivals Infuse

Watch right in your browser, or in native apps on your phone, TV, and Mac. iPhone, Apple TV, and Mac share our own playback engine: FFmpeg unpacks, Apple plays.

Landscape playback on iPhone: Liquid Glass controls, audio and subtitle tracks, a Watch Full Movie button, AirPlay, and live download speed

Frame from the public trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, shown only to demonstrate playback. All rights belong to their owners. Rights holders can email [email protected] to have it removed.

  • Dolby Atmos
  • Hardware decoding, with software fallback
  • Transcoding only as a last resort
  • AI-generated subtitles
  • Progress synced across devices

02AI

Just say the word. It handles the rest.

MovieClaw puts an autonomous, general-purpose AI agent inside your media server. Organizing your library, making subtitles, handling all those quirky one-off requests: all you have to do is ask.

Describe a new task…

It checks with you before deleting anything, and every tool it calls is right there for you to see.

Fast, accurate release parsing

A small NER model, distilled from a large language model, parses a release name in about 3 ms on a plain CPU. It improves on its own with help from AI, so it gets sharper the more you use it. And when it isn't sure, it asks you instead of guessing.

MCP, on your terms

Create an MCP endpoint and pick exactly what it can do. Every endpoint gets its own token, revocable anytime.

Right in your chats

Connect WeChat, Telegram, Discord, or Feishu and talk to the built-in agent directly.

Your models, your skills

Plug in OpenAI, any OpenAI-compatible provider, or your own vLLM. Drop in a SKILL.md and you've got a new skill.

One pipeline, from subscription to library

Subscribe to a show, and everything after that — search, download, identify, fetch metadata, import, notify — runs on its own. No more keeping settings in sync across a handful of services.

03Use cases

This is what a personal media library should feel like

  1. 8:30 AMOn the train

Pick up last night's movie on your phone

In the browser, in the native apps, or in players like Infuse. Watch wherever you are, and your progress comes with you.

    movieclaw.local:3000
Continue Watching in the web app: Tears of Steel, Sintel (paused at 10:44), and Big Buck Bunny
Sintel on iPhone, ready to resume at 10:44
  2. 6:20 PMHeading home

New episode out? Your phone knows first

Subscribe once and forget about it. New releases are downloaded, added to your library, and pushed to your family's iPhones.

    Added to your library

Coffee Run (2020) is now in Animated Shorts. Ready when you are.

  3. 8:30 PMLiving room

    Everyone watches their own thing

Everyone gets their own account. The kids only see cartoons rated for them. You're on your phone, the family's on the big screen, and nobody's in anyone's way.

The Activity screen on iPhone: four devices playing at once, including the kids' iPad, your iPhone, Infuse on the living room Apple TV, and a web browser

    • FFamilyAll libraries · Can subscribe
    • FFriendMovies only
  4. 11:10 PMIn bed

Ask in a chat tonight. Watch it tomorrow.

Send a quick message on WeChat or Telegram from bed. It finds the title and subscribes. By morning, it's waiting on your poster wall.

    11:10 PM

Looking for a new cartoon to watch with the kids this weekend. Can you pick one and subscribe?

You've already watched every animated short in the library, so I subscribed to this one. It'll show up on your poster wall once it's downloaded:

05Install

Got one of these? You're good to go.

A single Docker container runs everything, with no separate database to set up. You'll be up and running in five minutes.

Heads-up: MovieClaw's interface is currently in Chinese only.

MovieClaw Cloud

Self-hosted, with real Apple push notifications

MovieClaw Cloud is our official cloud service, and for now it does exactly one thing: it lets your instance send notifications, like a download starting or a new arrival, to your family's iPhones through the official push relay. It's completely optional. Skip it and every feature still works.

  • End-to-end encrypted: the cloud and relay only ever see ciphertext
  • Your instance connects out, so you don't need a public IP
  • Only admins sign in. Family members and the app never touch the cloud
  • Disconnect anytime, and the relay cuts the instance off right away
  • The push relay, movieclaw-push, is open source and self-hostable
  • No passwords: sign in with Google, GitHub, or an email code
  1. 1On your instance, go to Settings → MovieClaw Cloud and click Connect to MovieClaw account
  2. 2Sign in here, check the pairing code, and approve
  3. 3iPhones signed in to that instance start getting notifications

What are we watching tonight?

Ask your MovieClaw.

I can only show you the door. You’re the one that has to walk through it.
