Install on QNAP
Set up MovieClaw on a QNAP NAS as a Container Station 3 application (Docker Compose).
Last reviewed 2026-10-04
These steps use Container Station 3, where an Application is a Docker Compose project. Comfortable with the command line? Use Install with Docker instead.
Step 1: Install Container Station
Find Container Station in App Center and install it. This creates a Container shared folder.
Step 2: Prepare your folders
- In File Station, create a
movieclawfolder inside theContainershared folder. MovieClaw keeps its data here. - Find the paths to your media and downloads. QNAP shared folders live under
/share/, such as/share/Multimediaand/share/Download. Not sure? SSH in and runls /share.
Step 3: Create the application
- Open Container Station, choose Applications in the sidebar, and click Create.
- Name it
movieclawand paste the following into the YAML editor, using your own media and download folders:
services:
movieclaw:
image: movieclaw/movieclaw:latest
container_name: movieclaw
init: true
ports:
# Host port on the left. If 3000 is taken, change the left side (e.g. "8096:3000")
- "3000:3000"
volumes:
# All runtime data. Back up this folder (it includes the hidden .secret_key file)
- /share/Container/movieclaw:/app/data
- /share/Multimedia:/media # ← your media folder
- /share/Download:/downloads # ← your download client's save folder
environment:
- TZ=Europe/London # ← your time zone
restart: unless-stopped- Click Validate, then Create. Container Station pulls the image and starts it. The first run takes a few minutes.
Step 4: Open the web app
Go to http://<nas-ip>:3000, create your admin account, and continue with First-time setup. When you add a library, use the container path. In the example above that's /media, not /share/Multimedia.
Troubleshooting
Port 3000 is taken
Change "3000:3000" to something like "8096:3000" (left side only), redeploy the application, and use port 8096.
Hardware transcoding with the iGPU
See Hardware transcoding. SSH in and run ls /dev/dri first to make sure it exists.
